We was drunk off some whiskey and cold bud light
Took the guns off the rack from the back of the truck
Tried to pry ourselves out of that back road muck
Well, my boots are as treadles as my big ass tires

When we finally got out
We went to the bar
Sat down to have us a beer

By the time I realized I was covered in dry mud
The barkeep had everyone chanting a new name
See they thought I was covered in clay, a ton of it
And like a damn thistle that name stuck for good

The story of my last takes us into the past
When I was making coin teaching rodeo class
I was doing double duty, breaking’ broncos with Ben
Tied one foot on and the other and then
Kicked that horse so damn hard, my spur got stuck
Ripped right off my boot and I lost my luck
Well that rough stock went bucking’ and down I went
Headfirst I got stuck in, brown wet cement

Ol’ Ben pried my out
We went to the bar
Sat down to have us a beer

After sitting’ there a bit I was noticing people laughing’ and pointing’ at me
By that point in my life my skin was so leathery from the sun I didn’t notice I was covered in dried mud again
And what else?
My damn spur was still stuck in that damn horse’s ass
Kinda makes me the horse’s ass I reckon
Everyone started calling me clayton spur from them on
I hit my head so many times I can’t remember my Christian name
